Rose Absolute's backstory

Rose Absolute’s history goes back centuries. Roses have been prized throughout history for their sweet, rich fragrance and soothing nature. Romans scattered rose petals from ceilings during banquets and adorned their favourite gods and goddesses with roses. The ancient Egyptians used roses in their religious ceremonies and beauty routines, and remnants of dried roses have been found next to mummies in tombs.

Ever wondered why rose is associated with love and passion? The word “rosa” is derived from the Greek word “rodon” which means “red.” The rose used by the Greeks was a deep, crimson colour – the colour of blood, passion, and love. The Greek poet Sappho even referred to rose as the “Queen of Flowers.”

Today, there are more than 250 distinct species of roses of all different colours. However, only three of them are cultivated on a large scale for their exquisite perfume. These are known as the old roses, or parents of the many hybrids that are grown around the world. The cost of pure rose oil is so high because it requires about 20,000 rose petals to make just one little bottle of essential oil!
